Kinetic Sculpture

My sculpture is made in the context of the modern world. With never ending competition from digital entertainment, the internet and 24 hour news cycles, I believes that art needs to engage the viewer in much more active ways to continue to be relevant.

To these ends, my work is alive and energized, requiring participation and interaction. The audience is asked to be a part of it, and not apart from it.

  • DRAWING MACHINE #4

I'm experimenting with the notion of making a better artist, creating a creator. Something that can make in a way that I can never hope to.

  • DRAWING MACHINE #3

I'm experimenting with the notion of making a better artist, creating a creator. Something that can make in a way that I can never hope to.

  • JUST BETWEEN US

We're all looking for that special connection. Others to make magic with, to help ourselves see the light.

  • MODERN ALCHEMY
Steam powered sculpture. A combination of a hand made, high pressure steam generator (lovingly named ignatus), and various devices that run off of him. A collaboration with artists David Dowling and Brady Scott. Documentary created by Patrick Johnson.
  • AIR SCULPTURE 1
Air powered kinetic sculpture. Explores the potential of art in motion, but without the electricity.
  • AIR SCULPTURE 2
A sculpture that generates electricity, powered by a single cylinder air engine.
  • THE GREEN LCD SCREEN

This piece (installed at the Axiom gallery, Boston) is an exploration in the cycle of green energy, from production to use. It is also a sarcastic critique of green-washed consumer goods.

  • CHRISTMAS CHAOS
My intentions with this series is to undermine the candy coating of the season, as well as point out its absurdities. Just wait until the end.
  • OBSOLETE AND EXTINCT
This installation explores the relationship between obsolete technologies, and extinct species. A motion sensor activates the mechanical creatures, the bit-like environment of tapes in which they live grounds them.
  • BETTERFLY
I watched the extinction of the Miami Blue Butterfly; over the course of ten years of development and hurricanes, they cease to exist in south Florida. In this piece I am trying to reanimate both it, and the cassette player – both victims of extinction.
  • INCHWORM
I’ve recreated an extinct species of inchworm from my native Florida with parts of bicycles that have themselves found obsolescence. My hope is that through this reverence of both, they can find new life and value.
  • MODEM MONSTER
This piece is an experiment in reimagining our connection through technology. What if it actually did reach out and touch someone?
